Shadowing Regrets

Sometimes the hardest truth
Is the one that shadows us forever
The one defines each path we take
That seals off plans and illusions
And the one we dream to whisk away
The one we seek to overcome in hopes
In aspirations sugar coated by perhaps
And what ifs.
Sometimes we wish to gaze in the future
But can only be tormented by the past
And today becomes a simple silent murmur
A vessel that carries a piece of us away
A piece of youth and a piece of life
A piece of pain and a piece of strife
Until there’s nothing left.
Here we lay lost inside
Slaves to only one action- forward
Deemed worthy by our efforts to haul
Our own shattered hearts and shards of memories
To a new awakening- a world recreated within
Without the anguish of self inflicted regret
Hoping one day to receive genuine reason to live.
